Our committee had drawn up a full and exciting programme of activities and trips and special events for 2020, to mark our 5th year. But to quote Burns ‘the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry’

Despite having to close the club for the year our members have proven that they are a special bunch of ladies who, despite the physical restrictions, showed support for one another and kept in touch via WhatsApp and text message.  With a daily dose of jokes and funnies, in particular ‘Aunty Acid’ with her personal brand of wit and hilarious wisdom became a firm favourite with our members. Contributions of posts with advice and information, brain teasers, inspirational quotes and a wonderful selection of music helped to keep our spirits up and made sure that we were stayed in touch throughout the past 10 tough months.

The kindness and generosity of our members was evidenced in the way they rallied to the call for donations for the ladies toiletries appeal and Christmas boxes for Babushka.  Earlier in the year SNUGS entertained us with their wonderful music, with all donations that morning going to the Hospice.  We also had a fundraiser for Doctor Wheeler’s charity ‘Standing Voice’ which looks after cancer victims in Malawi.  We were also instrumental in helping to get a defibrillator into the community centre.  Many thanks for your wonderful support in this difficult year.

A grateful and heartfelt thanks to all our members for the support shown to Pauline and family after Phillips sudden death and her recent stay in hospital.  We have also received letters of thankfulness from the families of Ronnie Breen and Mary Bowe.  They were so appreciative of what our club meant to their mothers and the enjoyment they got from it.  The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions. We were very grateful to Father Corcoran for celebrating a beautiful Mass of Remembrance for the deceased members and friends of Ayrfield Circle of Friends and Ayrfield Men’s Shed. Many thanks Father Gerry!

On the business end of the group we were delighted to receive a refund from our insurance company and we also received a grant to go towards our clubs activity programme. Onwards and upwards!  With the roll out of the vaccine we hope that we will be able to get back together in the not too distant future. Once we are back in action all those planned events and trips will happen! We will also celebrate, as only we can, with all the parties we have missed! So have those sparkly tops at the ready!

Meanwhile have a Happy and Safe 2021.
